Why choose silk?

Pourquoi choisir la soie ?

Why choose silk?

Silk is a soft, natural fiber of animal origin, produced mainly in China and India .

In France , silkworm farms* historically developed in the Southeast and in Occitanie , not far from Lyon , a city that has long been the heart of the French silk industry.

Today, silk represents barely 0.2% of the global textile fiber market. This scarcity also contributes to its precious nature.

So… why choose silk?

Choosing silk means choosing a natural fiber with exceptional qualities .
It is both:

  • Light and soft , for unparalleled comfort on the skin

  • Hypoallergenic , ideal for sensitive skin

  • Thermoregulating : it protects against the cold while remaining breathable when it's hot

  • resistant , when properly spun and woven

These are all advantages that explain why silk has been valued for centuries.

How to care for silk?

Like all natural fibers, silk requires some special care. Contrary to popular belief, however, it is very simple to take care of.

The essential rule to remember: woven silk does not like excessive heat.

Here are a few simple steps to take care of your pure silk top or dress.

Machine wash

  • Choose a delicate cycle, such as hand wash or wool/silk.

  • opt for a very gentle spin cycle

  • Use a detergent suitable for delicate fabrics.

Hand wash

  • immerse your silk item in cold or lukewarm water

  • Make sure the laundry detergent is completely dissolved in the water before adding the garment.

  • never twist the fibers

  • Then rinse with cold water in the shower.

We also recommend using a washing care specially designed for delicate materials such as knitwear and silk.

Drying

Allow your item to air dry, ideally on a hanger and away from direct sunlight.

Ironing

Iron your garment inside out , on a low setting .
Avoid spraying water directly onto silk: the droplets combined with the heat could mark the fabric.

If you still prefer not to take any risks, a professional dry cleaner will know perfectly how to take care of it.

Why do we say that silk is fragile?

In reality, silk isn't as fragile as we think. What it dislikes most is direct contact with cosmetics.

Whether you use a deodorant (spray, roll-on or solid), a body lotion or a dry oil, apply them before putting on your top or dress, then let them dry completely.

The same applies to perfume. Even high-quality fragrances contain essences that can stain natural fibers, whether silk, linen, or cotton.

Finally, even when it is of very high quality, silk remains a delicate material, which deserves to be worn under good conditions.

Take care of it… and fully enjoy everything it has to offer.

* A silkworm farm (from the Occitan word magnan , which designates the silkworm, Bombyx du mûrier ) is a place dedicated to sericulture, that is to say to the breeding of silkworms.
